After graduating Cum Laude and as Law Review Editor from Boston College Law School, John clerked for Chief Judge Andrew Caffrey in the United States District Court and has been in private practice since 1964. John formed a partnership with James F. Grosso in 1986 and Karl J. Gross was added as partner in 2000. They were pleased to add former Assistant Attorney General Miranda S. Jones to the firm in 2013. John has successfully represented the Labor Relations Division of Construction Industries of Massachusetts in labor negotiations, grievances, arbitrations and in several cases before the First Circuit Federal Court of Appeals and the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. John is one of the very few attorneys in New England to have argued a Taft-Hartley labor case before the U.S. Supreme Court and has been included as one of the Best Employment Lawyers in New England and the United States for the past thirty years. He has served as Chairman of the Labor Law Section of the Massachusetts Bar Association and was a recipient of the coveted Cushing-Gavin Award from the Boston Labor Guild.
John successfully prevailed in a substantial number of arbitration hearings in the Big Dig and Boston Harbor Cleanup Projects and has represented a number of contractor associations in negotiations and grievances as well as a number of Local and National contractors in individual Union and employment discrimination claims and has negotiated a number of Multi-Craft Bridge Agreements which enable union signatory contractors to become more competitive. John has also drafted successful legislation to amend the Massachusetts’ Prevailing Wage Rate Laws so as to place union signatory contractors in a more competitive posture.
He serves as Management Co-Counsel or Trustee on ten local and national construction industry fringe benefit funds with the Laborers’ Union, Operating Engineers, Teamsters, Carpenters and Electrical Workers.
